Because the treatment is based on the case of each, the participation of all in the program lasts three to five years. Participation in the Court of the drug may seem soft to foreigners who are not familiar with the process, many participants said that the drug court treatment is much more demanding than imprisonment.

The New Jersey drug court system was created in response to the failure of the system of incarceration. Unlike his incarceration, drug courts address the problem of drug addiction and the program creates benefits for the participants and the State of New Jersey. The program supports employment among the participants. Only one-third of the participants usually have jobs before entering the program. However, after the completion of the program 87 per cent of the participants are employed. The program also improves the rate of recidivism. The rate of arrest for those serving sentences of imprisonment for drug crimes is more than 50 per cent, while the rate for participants is only 16 percent.
