Updates to traffic in Texas in September 2011 introduced a number of changes for the drivers in the State, including adjustments of the speed limit and a new law requiring drivers to slow down or go to the approach of a truck trailer on the side of the road. Significantly absent of the redesign, however, was a measure that would have prohibited the texts while driving for all drivers in Texas.

Texts of proposed State ban was approved by the State legislators in both the Senate and the House of representatives, but was ultimately vetoed by Governor Rick Perry. If approved, textos law was in force in September with other new traffic laws.

Distracted driving in Texas

With the dramatic increase in the use of cell phones and text messaging over the past years, distracted conducted accidents related to cell phones have become a major problem in Texas and throughout the country. Compared to other forms of distracted driving, textos is especially dangerous because it occupies the eyes, hands and the concentration of lead at the same time. According to a study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, textos drivers are 23 times more likely to be involved in a car accident that drivers not distracted.

Currently, right of Texas prohibits only the texts for some drivers, including drivers of school buses, novice drivers and drivers under the age of 18. However, a number of cities across Texas, including El Paso, have adopted their own orders textos driving then that to complement the law of the State.

At El Paso, the drivers are closed de textos or talking on mobile phones. According to both dEl Paso, no other city in Texas prohibits all forms of use of handheld cell phones for drivers. Other cities, such as Austin and Arlington, prohibiting the texts but does not not on a cell phone while driving.

At El Paso, ticket or prick

The initiative recently announced by the Council of city of El Paso, pilots who receive a quote from the first order on city texts will have the opportunity to get the ticket dismissed in exchange for displaying a bumper sticker "no discussion, no message" on their vehicles. The stickers are designed to raise awareness about the dangers of cell phone use while driving. Drivers who choose not to display the thumbnail of bumpers, and repeat offenders, must pay a fine of $114.
